Little Sam Smith grows up in foster care, lonely and unloved, comforted and sustained by vivid, recurring dreams of a normal life growing up in a happy, middle-class home in Lawrence, Kansas with his mom, dad, and big brother. When a shadowy government agency takes an interest in Sam's nascent psychic abilities, Sam suddenly finds himself in training to be a psychic superhero, and things start looking up. Until the day he runs into a tall, freckled teenager on an old country road, and Sam wonders if dreams can makes wishes come true after all.
