2016 Year-End Fic Rec Post
Jan. 12th, 2017 12:30 pmOkay, 2016. You sucked. Except for fic! Also Ackles twins. I'm late posting this because 2016 sucked personally in major, major ways for me that I don't want to go into right now because this is a happy post, damn it! I'm so grateful for fandom and the joy in reading and writing and sharing that it gives me. I wish there was something more I could do to give back or pay forward all the love and support and hope I find here, but anyway. At least I can post this list of some of the most awesome fics I've read this year. So here it is, in no particular order and probably badly coded despite my best efforts (damn iPad 2! I need a new one!) This list is dismally incomplete, but I'm determined to get it out before this month is done, so.

Warnings: Warnings: Spoilers for 11.23: Alpha and Omega, past wincest.
Summary: Alternate ending for 11.23. Dean carries out the plan to suicide-bomb Amara, saving the world in the process. Just before he does, he makes Cas promise to stay with Sam, to "look after him and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." After Dean's sacrifice, Sam is consumed with grief, going mad with desperation to get Dean back or die trying. In a last ditch effort to save Sam and make good on his promise to Dean, Castiel wipes Sam's memories of his brother, leaving Sam a broken shell of a man who can barely remember what he had for breakfast. This story assumes the London Men of Letters storyline doesn't happen, God has died or disappeared, and there is no Mary Winchester returned from the dead.
A/N: I still can't believe this thing is done! All hail to satanic-prom-dress, the wonderful artist who picked my crazy prompt, in which I really needed to see Sam protesting Dean's sacrifice in the Season 11 Finale, then suffering when Dean does it anyway. A/N: This is an attempted fix-it AU for 8.01 and 11.11 and is a sequel to Most Things Happen Somewhere Else by
riyku based on my prompt for SPN-Masquerade. That's a brilliant story on its own, but it also fits my idea of what happened to Sam after Dean disappeared at the end of Season 7, even though that's probably not what riyku intended. I highly recommend reading it before reading my story, although it's not necessary to do so to understand what's going on here. I got the title from The Allman Brothers' song of the same name.
